London, June 2000. HRH The Duke of Kent has honoured Painting & Patronage by paying a visit to the Royal intercultural initiative’s exhibition taking place at London’s Banqueting House in Whitehall on 17 June 2000.
His Royal Highness was received and greeted on arrival by HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, President of Painting & Patronage, and the Chairman of Painting & Patronage Mr Anthony Bailey.
The exhibition showcases twenty-six oil paintings by HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal depicting the mountainous landscapes and people of the south-western province of Asir, and thirty watercolours by HRH The Prince of Wales, including views of Scotland, Turkey, Greece, France and two watercolours of the mountains of Asir. A selection of paintings of Saudi Arabia by British royal tour artist, James Hart Dyke were also on display.
Painting & Patronage was first launched in 1999 by HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud in Riyadh and is today one of the largest private royal cultural and educational exchange initiatives of its kind between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Europe.
