
In the Art & Culture fields, Anthony Bailey was appointed Executive Chairman of Painting & Patronage in 1999 – a prominent cultural and educational exchange programme between Europe and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Painting & Patronage was founded by HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, Governor of Makkah Province. In 2005 the King of Saudi Arabia granted his High Patronage over the Programme. Since 1999 Anthony has served as Special Counsel to HRH Prince Khalid Al-Faisal.
Among the core activities of Painting & Patronage are community outreach programmes, summer schools for amateur and professional artists, painting and photographic exhibitions and a postgraduate scholarship programme. International programmes have taken place under the joint patronage of HE President Filip Vujanovic of Montenegro, HE President Jorge Sampaio of the Portuguese Republic and twice with HM King Charles III of Great Britain (as Prince of Wales).
In 2010 Painting & Patronage launched its 10th anniversary programme in London in partnership with The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts Activities included summer schools and workshops in Burnley, Lancashire and Greater London. Previous Painting & Patronage programmes have taken place in Abha, Jeddah, Riyadh, Sintra, Lisbon, Podgorica and London. Further art exihibitions have taken place in Rabat, Beirut, Amman, Cairo, Jeddah, Paris and Abha.
Since 1999, Anthony has acted as a consultant to numerous other art and cultural programmes held in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. These have included the British Library’s Sacred exhibition, Russia’s Red Square Invites festival, and the London, Sintra and Riyadh Painting & Patronage art exhibitions.
In 2009 he was appointed to the Board of the Waterford Museum of Treasures in Ireland.
In 2012 Anthony was appointed as Co-Chair of Portrait of Our Queen – a national schools competition in Britain celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
