London, June 2007. Eligo International hosted in conjunction with other partners the first ever exchange visit of Bulgarian Christian, Muslim and Jewish leaders to the UK from 20 to 22 June 2007. Mr Anthony Bailey is the chairman of Eligo International.
The two day visit included a delegation of the leaders of the Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Protestant Muslim and Jewish communities in Bulgaria. A conference was held in Central London on 21 June 2007 at St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and Peace in the presence of leading British religious figures including the Delegation’s Sub Prior, The Rt Rev Bishop George Stack of Westminster, His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain, and leaders of Britain’s Anglican, Muslim and Jewish communities.
Among the delegation members were His Eminence Metropolitan Dometian, Bishop of Vidin and Head of the International Department of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, Mustafa Hadzhi, the Grand Mufti of Bulgaria, the Right Reverend Christo Proikov, Apostolic Exarch of the Roman Catholic Church in Bulgaria and Mr Roberto Jerasy, Head of the Jewish Spiritual Council.
The British Prime Minister was represented by his envoy to the faith communities, The Rt Hon John Battle, MP. Mr Anthony Bailey also addressed the audience.
The visit was organised by Eligo International, the Grand Magistral Delegation for Inter-Religious Relations of the Constantinian Order, the Bulgarian Embassy in London, St Ethelburga’s Centre for Reconciliation and the Three Faith Forum. To mark the occasion both the British and Bulgarian Prime Ministers sent messages of congratulations welcoming the initiative so soon after the Balkan nation’s recent accession to the European Union.
