London, November 2012. Mr Anthony Bailey, OBE, GCSS, has been appointed as Counsellor to The English Speaking Union and has become its first International Ambassador.
The English Speaking Union promotes the mutual advancement of education of the English-speaking peoples of the world, in particular respecting their heritage, traditions and aspirations, the events and issues of the day affecting them, their inter-relationships and the use of English as a shared language and means of international communication of knowledge and understanding, provided that these are always pursued in a non-political and non-sectarian manner.
The organisation runs a wide range of educational and cultural programmes, from scholarships for school leavers, teachers and professionals; to ground-breaking persuasive speech training and competitions involving hundreds of schools in the UK and internationally. The President of the English Speaking Union is HRH The Princess Royal.
